Here’s a devotion as we get ready for Christmas.
Mary, did you know?
Have you ever stopped to think about Mary? To consider what may have been going through her mind when she learned God’s plan for her? How she felt when she needed a place to give birth? And what about Joseph? What he was thinking when his attempts to find a place for his wife to deliver God’s Son were repeatedly turned down? Or how excited he was when he found a place? What about Mary’s reaction when she learned where the blessed event would take place?
And why was Bethlehem so special? Did they head there because Caesar told them to go? No. They went because God said so. God promised that the ruler who would govern Israel would be born in Bethlehem. The census Caesar ordered was how God brought forth His plan.
It may seem strange that God didn’t have a place set up for the birth since He sent them to Bethlehem. But, actually, He did have one. God’s plans were never for Jesus to live in a palace. Though Jesus would rule forever, that wasn’t His only purpose. He also came to serve and to be a sacrifice so that we might have eternal life with the Father. The manger where Jesus was born wasn’t fit for a king, but it was perfect for the Lamb of God.
Thank You, Lord, that Your plans for Jesus’s birth were perfect, and Your plans for us are, as well. Amen.
I hope you have a blessed day.
