Welcome to February!
A Link-Up Party with A Chronic Voice
I’m participating in the link-up party with A Chronic Voice,http://www.achronicvoice.com where we are given monthly writing prompts for a blog post.
It’s a chance to connect with other chronic illness bloggers. I’m excited and honored to have the opportunity to reflect on and write about the prompts Sheryl provides. Here is the link with all the details if you would like to take part yourself. This month’s prompts are: Defining, Allocating, Uniting, and Educating.
Defining: 2020 took a toll on me, physically and mentally. 2021 began with me looking over the many things in my life and on my plate. As a result, I’m defining new work/life boundaries. I’ve had some new symptoms arise over the last six months, and they’ve made me realize (well, that and many of my loved ones pointing this out, as well), that I need to make changes. And those changes include adding some downtime to my schedule. My husband has always told me that “relax” isn’t in my vocabulary, and he’s been right. But I hope to change that this year.
I’ve also started defining my writing goals for 2021. These will include finding more time (in that new schedule) to work on my own book and writing.
Allocating: It’s been very apparent the past few months (perhaps year) that I’m not allocating my spoons appropriately. As a result, I’m running short on spoons some days. As I mentioned above, I’m now allocating spoons (and time) for myself: to do relaxing activities, work on my own writing (or other) projects, etc.
Uniting: I’ve realized something a bit strange over the past year. While there’s been a lot of division in our world, I’ve also seen a lot of people uniting. People helping people. People doing their part to keep others safe. Sadly, there are still many people who push back against these measures, but I’ve been pleasantly surprised that there are still people who can come together and do what is best for others vs. just thinking of their own momentary inconvenience. We are so much stronger when we’re united.
During the past year, I’ve also been uniting with other chronic illness warriors all over the world, thanks to social media. It’s been such a positive experience, and it’s something that may not have happened (at least not in the way it did) had it not been for the pandemic.
Educating: Through my blog and social media posts, I’ve been educating others about life with chronic pain and illness. Along with that, I’m educating myself, as it’s an ever-changing field. Each person needs to be an advocate for themselves, and that means staying on top of the current practices, etc.
So, that’s it for my link-up party blog post. Thanks for sticking with me. I hope you are staying healthy and doing well. Have a blessed day!
If you’d like to check out the other bloggers for this month’s linkup, you can do so over at A Chronic Voice.
Hello! I enjoyed reading your take on Sheryl’s prompts. I agree with you that we need to keep learning about our conditions. Hoping you do well at managing your spoons.
Thanks, Kathy.
I’m not off to a great start with the spoons to day, but the day is young, and I’m working to turn that around.
Gentle hugs your way!
Relax isn’t really in my vocabulary either. I said it to a physiotherapist a while back, and she obviously pointed out that if I recognised that then I needed to do something about it because we need to calm our bodies with chronic illness. It is easier said than done though isn’t it!
Yes! It is SO much easier said than done. Just like comments such as “Just stop worrying,” “Just let it go,” etc. are equally unhelpful. Gentle hugs your way.
Pacing is really hard. Every year the goalposts change for me and I have to pull back a little further and adjust how much time I’m spending on something to save energy.
I look forward to reading more about your writing challenges this year!
Thanks, Carrie. I’m glad I’m not the only one who’s frequently needing to readjust.
