Hope-Filled Sunday!
Happy Sunday! Here’s some encouragement for your week.
“I can do it myself!”
I don’t know about you, but I say this to myself regularly (perhaps multiple times a day). It’s difficult for me to ask for help, and in many cases, it’s just easier to do something on my own, in my own timing. As you may imagine, that mindset often leaves me overwhelmed and stressed out, which, sadly, also increases my pain level. Perhaps you’re wondering why I just don’t delegate some of the tasks. “If I don’t do it, then it won’t get done!” Does any of this sound at all familiar to you?
Independence is a good thing … in some situations. However, God didn’t create us to be all and do all for ourselves and everyone around us. We weren’t designed to handle everything on our own or go through life alone. So why do we let ourselves get burdened down with overflowing schedules and then refuse to “let go, and let God,” particularly when He is offering us help (free of charge, even!)? At times, we cling too tightly to things because we get our sense of purpose and value from them. However, that’s the wrong way to think about it. Our value and worth comes from who we are in Christ. So, what can you let go of today so you can start living the life God has planned for you? The next time you hear yourself saying, “I can do it myself!”, ask Him to show you trustworthy people who can help you, as well as for the wisdom to know when to let them do so.
Lord, forgive me for my stubborn mindset that has stolen my joy and increased my stress. Give me the strength to let go so I can experience life’s little joys. Amen.
