Life with Chronic Pain and Illness
Life with chronic pain and illness can be a lonely road to travel. I’ve been on this journey many, many years. Here’s something I learned long ago: Unless someone lives with chronic pain and illness, they don't truly get it. Share on XSure, you will likely encounter people who do their best to understand, try to learn about your condition, and be as supportive as possible. But it’s just not the same.
I have had providers tell me they “get it” when I’m in their office because they can feel, to an extent, what my body is feeling, see the toll it’s taking and side effects, etc. But the difference is this: When I walk out of their office, it’s over for them. They don’t feel the overly tense muscles. They are unable to see the spasms throughout my body. They can’t witness the pain in my eyes. Sadly, for me (and perhaps you, as well), that’s not the case. All that, and much more, are still there … each and every day.
People don’t always look favorably on social media, and many times, there is a good reason for that. However, it can be beneficial. One such way is with the online chronic pain and illness community. There, I’ve found people who are on this same journey, so they truly understand all the little details, from the struggle to get a diagnosis to finding knowledgeable providers to offering tips on navigating day-to-day life. They don’t make you feel like you’re a burden. They’re encouraging and supportive.
My prayer is that you are able to find that same support here, as that was my intent with this page/group. I know how lonely life with chronic pain and illness can feel, and I don’t want anyone to feel that way. I also want to remind you that not only do I “get it,” but so does the Lord. Our hope, peace, comfort, and so much more can always be found in Him.
I hope you have a blessed, low-pain day.
