Life with Chronic Pain and Illness

Today’s Life with Chronic Pain and Illness reminder is: It's okay to be upset at your chronic illness and pain. Share on X

When you live with chronic pain and illness, it’s okay to be upset. It’s natural, in fact. You have a right to feel how you feel, be it happy, sad, frustrated, thankful, and so on. No one else can say that you don’t have the right to feel a certain way. Life is not a competition (though we are often made to feel otherwise.) While each person is on the same basic journey (life), we’re all in a different place. My journey is not the same as yours. And that’s okay. But what’s not okay is to make someone feel bad, or make them feel like a burden, just because they live with chronic pain and illness, are different from us, etc. Friends and loved ones who understand (even if they can’t totally grasp it, since their path and circumstances may be different) will acknowledge your feelings and support you when you:

  • are upset that you live with a chronic illness
  • question what your future may hold
  • feel misunderstood and alone
  • grieve your former self

I pray you have that support. If you don’t have it in your day to day (“real/in person”) life, know that you do have support here.

I hope you have a blessed, low-pain day.
