Life with Chronic Pain and Illness

Today’s Life with Chronic Pain and Illness tip is one that’s important for everyone to remember all year long, but it’s particularly key during the holidays: It's okay to take time for yourself. Share on X

It’s all too easy to think about everything that needs to be done … and to feel like it needs to be done “right now.” Numerous people and projects may be vying for your attention, making it feel selfish to take time for yourself. This often seems to be even more true during the holidays when there be many things to do in a shorter time period, which makes overextending ourselves quite likely. And when you live with chronic pain and illness, it doesn’t take much to use up the short supply of daily spoons (energy).

As I mentioned in my post last week, it’s important to take time for yourself. To rest as needed. And, perhaps most importantly, to not feel guilty about doing so! Prioritize the most important tasks you need to do each day, fill in others you have time and spoons for, and delegate (or perhaps even ignore) the rest. In doing so, it will help ensure that you, too, can have an enjoyable holiday.

I hope you have a blessed, low-pain day.
