Life with Chronic Pain and Illness

Life with chronic pain and illness is difficult, and it’s important to keep a sense of humor. Here are a few (comical, yet true) signs that may mean you have a chronic illness.

  • You were surprised to learn that the average person’s pain level is zero.
  • Your freezer is full of ice packs, and you definitely have your favorites!
  • You have a heating pad in multiple rooms of your house.
  • Your friends come to you when they need medical advice.
  • You choose between/prioritize which basic daily tasks to do each day.
  • You have your medical providers’ numbers on speed dial.
  • You see those medical providers more regularly than you see your friends.
  • Medication, daily hacks, heating pads and ice packs, adaptive tools, etc. take up more of your luggage than your clothes do.
  • The random items you keep in your support bag or purse “just in case” you need them could rival Mary Poppins’ or Hermione Granger’s bag.
  • And if you are able to relate to any of these, you may just live with a chronic illness.

I hope you have a low-pain day.
