Life with Chronic Pain and Illness: Unpredictable Flare-Ups Make It Hard to Plan in Advance

Life with Chronic Pain and Illness

Today’s Life with Chronic Pain and Illness reminder is one that never gets any easier to accept, and it may be hard for those without chronic pain and illness to understand:

Unpredictable flare-ups make it hard to plan in advance. Share on X They may also cause us to cancel plans (that we likely really wanted to do!) with short notice. As a result, people who live with chronic pain and illness often feel left out of activities with friends and loved ones, who may get frustrated at these last-minute changes.

To those same friends and loved ones: Trust me when I tell you that flare-ups and last minute cancellations frustrate us far more than they frustrate you. So please continue to invite us to events. You never know when we might have enough spoons saved up in order to attend. And be open to low-key time together, instead of extravagant activities, that may be easier for us to manage.

I hope you have a blessed, low-pain day.
