My review…
I’m excited to share about the new Peace of God Bible. Each year, I read through the Bible. I like to try new versions/editions, so I was excited to check this one out.Â
There are various versions of this Bible. The one I reviewed is the brown leathersoft one. It came with a colored sleeve that can be used to store and shelve the Bible. This translation is the NKJV version. The font is a bit small for my preference (9.5 NKJV Comfort Print), but it is still easy to read. The pages have a gold edging to them, and they are thinner than I would have liked, as I do like to take notes in the Bible. However, there really isn’t much room to do that. Based on the thickness of the pages, there would likely be ghosting if you tried to write in or even underline passages. Therefore, I would be more likely to use a separate journal for this and just highlight relevant portions in the Bible itself. There is a bit of a shadow on the back of some pages where the devotional parts are listed. This Bible is somewhat heavy, as it does have a bit over 1,500 pages. However it does lay flat quite nicely. Two ribbon bookmarks (for my version, they were brown and gold) are included, which I really appreciate. It makes it so much easier to read multiple books of the Bible during my devotional time. This NKJV also includes the red letters. Chapter numbers and headings use a blue font.
Life is full of uncertainties that can shake our peace. This Bible is full of reminders that God can give us peace unlike any we can find elsewhere. He is faithful and keeps His promises, and we can trust in that. The Peace Notes are a great addition that highlights many of these promises. Here are a few examples:
- Peace Note for Ezekiel 18:9 — “Just like Ezekiel, who perhaps wondered if God’s peace would truly come, we must walk forward with faith in the Lord when the road is rocky.”
- Peace Note for Psalm 139:6 — “Step back and humbly say, ‘God, I don’t understand, but I will trust you with this mystery and praise You because You do understand.'”
- Peace Note for Philippians 4:6 — “Philippians 4 is the greatest anti-anxiety chapter in all the Bible. Read it and memorize it! Peace is closer than you think.”
Each book of the Bible begins with an introduction which details the author, timeline, theme, and key verses.
The key theme of this Bible is peace—peace with God and with others. Biblical peace is defined as a way of life with a relationship with God and other people vs. just a feeling of calmness.Â
The Peace of God Bible invites you to experience peace with God as you trace this important theme throughout Scripture. By meditating on it daily as you read 365 devotions and application notes, you will find the encouragement you need to live out of the wholeness you have in Christ and also prepare you to share that peace with others.
At the beginning of the Bible is a presentation page, which is standard in many Bibles. Then there’s a Table of Contents, a preface to the New King James Version of the Bible, and a section on how to use this Bible. The various sections include devotions, articles, study themes, peace notes, book introduction, cross-references, and a concordance. Then there are three powerful articles:Â 1) The Peace of God: Find It and Keep It, 2) Believers Can Recover the Peace of God, and 3) Find God and His Peace: The Plan of Salvation.
At the back of the book you will find:
- a topical index of devotions
- a features index
- an extensive concordance
- a nice selection of colored maps.Â
