Welcome to Thankful Thursday: His Encouragement.
I am blessed to be part of a group of bloggers who’ll be sharing a bit of encouragement through Scripture verses. I hope this post blesses you as you finish the week and that you find peace, strength, and comfort in the Lord.
This month, my focus will be on Leviticus.
When someone wrongs you, it’s easy to get upset and perhaps want to seek revenge. Yet that’s exactly what this verse warns against. This is the first reference in the Bible to the “golden rule,” which Jesus also repeated four times in the New Testament (Matthew 19:19 and 22:39, mark 12:30, and Luke 10:27).
The Israelites were to be an example to the rest of the world so they could see how the people of God were to live and behave. God asks the same of His people today. He wants to change our hearts. He’s not asking us to act one way while our hearts may be filled with hate or vengeance. Instead, He wants us to look out for the interests of others—not just ourselves.
Pay close attention to that last statement. With all that has been going on across America, it’s one we really need to remember. So many people are hurting. God's people are asked to love unconditionally, as He loves us. Share on X
The song “What the World Needs Now is Love” by Jackie Deshannon (1965) reiterated the point. Here’s a cover of that song, by a variety of Broadway stars (called Broadway for Orlando in 2016). Give it listen, and take the words to heart.
Lord, help us always to reflect You and Your love with all those we interact with throughout our days here on Earth.
The world would be such a better place if we all loved our neighbors as ourselves. Thank you for this reminder today!
You’re welcome.
Yes, it sure would be. We’re far more alike than we are different.
Great message.
Thank you ☺️
