The story behind the story…

Thank you, Leslie, so much for hosting me on your blog today. I’ve been a huge fan of romance novels since I was a teenager. For me, The Sheriff’s Second Chance includes some of my favorite themes in romance including redemption, hope and, of course, second chances. I especially love reading romances revolving around small towns and family, and books with animals have always been some of my favorites. My debut novel, The Sheriff’s Second Chance, is set in the fictional town of Hollydale and involves several members of the Harrison family, including Mike and his daughter Rachel. In particular, the story behind the story of The Sheriff’s Second Chance started during a family vacation. While traveling to our destination, my family stopped at a state park for a picnic (I love picnics!) and we kept seeing all these classic cars passing by as there was a car show occurring at the same park. As my husband drove the rest of the way, I started thinking about a story that centered around classic cars and what it would take to restore a car to its former glory. From there, the idea of something broken and run down suggested the themes of second chances and hope. And that’s how a reunion story between a police officer and a mechanic was born. I loved writing this book, and Beau, the dog who loves chili dogs, popped up on the first day of writing. He’s featured on the cover and made writing all the more fun.

My writing journey…

I’ve always had stories in my head, but it wasn’t until my two older children were in school that I decided I wanted to pursue writing as a career although I graduated from the University of Georgia with degrees in journalism and law. When my son was in kindergarten, I finished writing my first book and was starting my second when my husband and I received the wonderful news we were expecting our third child. And a few weeks later, we found out we were also expecting our fourth. Twins! When they were babies, I started thinking about what I needed to do differently than before. After the twins started preschool, I searched out writing communities and started to ask other writers for critiques. And I read so many wonderful books.

Since then, I’ve attended conferences, read books about the craft of writing and, most importantly, I’ve had to make sure I devote time to writing. For me, writing is a dream come true. My twins are now in elementary school, and they tell everyone their mommy is a writer.

Book blurb…

Broken things can’t be fixed…
Or can they?
Officer and single dad Mike Harrison doesn’t believe in second chances. Ever. That is, until he learns that his former best friend—gorgeous green-eyed car mechanic Georgie Bennett—is back in town. Unfortunately, she’s also a suspect in a recent break-in! But it’ll take an old classic car to show Mike and Georgie that almost anything can be restored with a little patience…and a whole lot of love.

Excerpt…

Was Georgie a stranger? After such a long time away, could he count their teenage friendship as a basis for something real, something to build a lasting relationship on?

Yesterday’s break-in delivered a cold shock to his system. Every time he examined the evidence and compared it to the other crime scenes, something didn’t add up. All the circumstantial evidence pointed to Georgie. She had motive, means and opportunity. The perfect trifecta.

He and Georgie locked gazes before he averted his. The sad truth crept into him. He didn’t know Georgie Bennett anymore.

  1. Hi Tanya! Second chance stories are a favorite of mine because they offer hope. Loved your book of restoration and the small town setting. Let’s do a picnic celebration!

  2. Sherida, thank you so much! My husband’s parents are downsizing, and my husband found a picnic basket belonging to his grandfather that he brought back to working order. We’ll use that. Have a great day.

    • Yes, we certainly do need those second (and even third) chances. Good luck! Thanks for visiting my blog.

    • Dear Jackie, Thank you so much! I think that’s one reason the theme of second chances resonates with so many is because we all appreciate them in our own lives. Thanks!

    • Dear Nancy, As a mother of four, I certainly agree there are some things like glasses and dishes that can’t be fixed. I’m glad for second chances for some of the things that can be fixed. Thanks for stopping by.

Oh this sounds so good and intriguing! And I believe that people can have 2nd chances and 3rd and 4th and so on. As long as you’re living, the Lord will give you chances.
I just followed Tanya on FB and Twitter, can’t wait to see more books from her.
Thank you Leslie and Tanya for an opportunity to win this book.
