My review…

For many years, I’ve read through the Bible in a year, using a variety of Bible reading plans. When I was offered the chance to review this Bible, that is structured into a daily reading plan, I was excited to check it out. It does make it very convenient, as the daily reading plan is already decided for you. You don’t need to flip back and forth through the Bible each day.

There are two different reading plans included in the One Year Bible.

    • On the Daily Reading Path: With this plan, you will read a passage from the Old Testament, the New Testament, Psalms, and Proverbs each day.
    • The Chronological Reading Path: In this play, you will explore the Bible in the order the events took place.

Here’s a description of the plans:

At the beginning of the Bible, there are various sections, such as Ways to Use The One Year Bible, a Publisher’s Note, and an Introduction to the New Living Translation.

Key points:

  • Daily reading format: This Bible divides the Bible into daily readings from the Old Testament, New Testament, Psalms, and Proverbs. Each daily reading is of a manageable size and designed to take under 30 minutes a day to read. In this way, what could be viewed as a daunting task (reading the entire Bible in a year) is seen as more doable.
  • Translation: The New Living Translation (NLT) is a common translation that many people find very readable and easy-to-understand. It’s a good option for those who may be newer to studying and reading the Bible.
  • Font: The 9-point font may be a bit too small for some readers. (Note: There is a large-print version, but I have not reviewed that, so I can’t comment on it.)
  • Margins: The margins are way too small to take notes in them, if that’s something you typically find helpful or enjoy doing.
  • Cover: This version is a soft, flexible cover. It’s easy to hold or, if you prefer, you can also prop it up against something to read it that way.
  • Paper quality: The pages are somewhat thin so, if you’re like me and like to highlight passages, most highlighters are likely to show through the next page.

Just to note: If you’re doing a traditional Bible study which focuses on one book of the Bible, this wouldn’t be the best option to use due to it being divided up.

Who It’s For:

    • If you’ve never read through the Bible, this is a great option to use due to the Bible being broken up in a manageable, organized way.
    • It could be a great option for individual use or even in small groups.

Disclaimer: I received a complimentary copy from the publisher, but I wasn’t required to leave a positive review. (This book was provided to me by Tyndale House Publishers and FrontGate Media.)
