About the book…
Sharing personal insights from Matthew’s faith journey and a Bible-based exploration of the power and meaning of prayer, Don’t Stop Praying aims to help readers rediscover the thriving, intimate, and bold prayer life that Jesus desires for us.
As Christians, we don’t embrace the central truth of our faith that prayer actually changes the world – our conversations with God have an impact on eternity. Author and Grammy nominated songwriter, Matthew West, invites his readers to join him in an exploration of prayer sparked by the personal realization that over the course of his lifetime he has “become really good at talking about Jesus instead of talking to Him.”
Don’t Stop Praying includes: Biblical examples that teach us how to pray, when to pray, and what to pray for; prayer challenges and thought-provoking questions to be used in prayer groups or with a prayer partner; different types of prayers available to readers and offer models of different prayers; and Matthew’s trademark humor and storytelling.
We face challenges and difficult questions of grief and desperation, but the truth is, we are people of prayer.

My review…
Since I love Matthew West’s song “Don’t Stop Praying,” I was interested in reading this book. It didn’t disappoint. West’s book is an encouraging devotional for anyone looking to grow stronger in their prayer life.
The book is broken up into forty chapters, each on focusing on a specific aspect of prayer, such as following the Father’s voice, praying Scripture, and praying for healing, just to name a few. Each chapter has a message, a prayer challenge, and then a prayer journal prompt. There are no dates, so readers can work through this at their own pace, and they can choose if they want to read it daily or weekly. Each chapter is relatively short, around five pages, so it is easy to fit it into a busy schedule. The journaling prompts at the end are related to what was in the chapter, and it gives readers options for applying what they have read that day. Due to the forty-day format, this could also be a good option to read during Lent or as a small group study.
Some people may find prayer a bit intimidating, but this book does a wonderful job of making it feel very doable. It breaks down the how-to’s, and it also addresses the power of prayer, in general. West includes anecdotes from his own personal experiences, which makes the book more relatable. It does not feel preachy. Scripture verses are included throughout, as are references to West’s lyrics. It’s interactive and full of practical insight.
This book is also directed to those who wonder whether or not God hears them. With that in mind, this book serves as a great reminder that nothing is too big or too small for God. West reminds readers that prayer is a great way to draw us closer to God. Overall, this book isn’t fancy, just a relatable reminder that God is with us, and He hears us. If life is feeling heavy and you need a faith boost, this is a good book to check out.
