Hope-Filled Sunday!

HOPE Amid the Pain header

Happy Sunday. Here’s some encouragement for your week.

I remember my grandma telling me when I was young to “Slow down. You’re moving too fast.” And she was correct … then and now. (Though these days, it’s more that I need to slow my mind down vs. my body.) However, society tells us just the opposite. We’re encouraged to rush around, zipping from one thing to another, expecting immediate results wherever we go and from whomever we encounter. That mindset has likely led us to get easily frustrated and impatient when we need to wait for anything.

While it may seem like the world is constantly moving at a frantic pace, that’s not the way God works. He’s never in a hurry. He knows the plans He has for us, and nothing we do will make Him move faster. God doesn't need to adjust to the world's frenzied pace. We need to adjust to His calm one. Click To Tweet That means we need to slow down so we don’t miss what He wants to show us or tell us.

More and more lately, my body and mind have reminded me that I can’t keep up with society’s pace. And the Bible tells us that it’s all right not to. Proverbs 19:2 is just one of many reminders that it’s more than okay to slow down (our bodies and minds), take some deep breaths, and stop multitasking. Focus on one thing at a time. Think through each decision, and take a moment to ask God for His input, so as not to make any hasty mistakes.

Lord, help me to slow down so I can walk in step with You, following Your pace instead of the world’s. Amen.
