Life with Chronic Pain and Illness

Today’s Life with Chronic Pain and Illness tip is one that’s important for everyone to remember, especially as we begin a new year: Don’t Compare Yourself to Others!

What would you say to someone if they told you that you were beyond compare? Would you look at them as though they were crazy, or would you believe what they said was the truth? (Hint: It’s #2!)

Sadly, it’s all too easy to compare ourselves (and our lives, in general), to others. Doing so can make us feel less about ourselves and make us overlook the many blessings and unique qualities we bring to this world. This is particularly true when you live with chronic pain and illness. It’s so easy to point out what others can do that you may no longer be able to do.

Here’s something you need to remember: God created only one you!  (Psalm 139:14). That fact alone should cause you to rejoice, instead of comparing yourself to anyone else. If God had wanted you to be different or like someone else, He would’ve made you them … not you!

The enemy wants us to fall into the comparison trap. He loves it because doing so sets us up for unrealistic expectations, makes us doubt ourselves, and tells us we’re not (and may never be) good enough. The enemy is working against us. Each day we need to make a conscious decision to resist him.

Never forget that God is for you! There is no one else who can do what God created you to do. You are an original, so avoid the comparison trap. You are beyond compare! Click To Tweet

I hope you have a blessed, low-pain day.
