Life with Chronic Pain and Illness

Life with chronic pain and illness is a struggle, but it’s also full of ironies. For instance:

  1. You look fine, but you know you’re anything but fine.
  2. You need to rest, but you resist resting because it makes you look like you’re not trying hard enough.
  3. You want to be independent, so you refuse to ask for help when needed.
  4. You fight to get through the day while your body fights itself.
  5. You’re thankful for being alive, but you still grieve the life and dreams you thought you’d have.
  6. You make extensive plans well in advance for something you’re super excited about, only to have to cancel at the last minute.
  7. You’re absolutely exhausted, but you can’t sleep, or, if you do, it’s unrefreshing.
  8. You put on a brave front while you’re falling apart inside.

Is there anything you’d add to this list? Feel free to share it in the comments.

I hope you have a low-pain day.
